GUARD Archaeology regularly assists local communities with the investigation and promotion of cultural heritage. We work closely with community groups, providing a professional service tailored to each one's requirements.
We have the experience and skills to benefit community efforts in a variety of ways – training volunteers in archaeological techniques, contributing information for the interpretation of cultural heritage and designing leaflets and signs to guide visitors and promote tourism.
When archaeology is found during commercial development, it can provide an opportunity to add value to the development. We can work with clients to design programmes of outreach – printed and web-based media, illustrated lectures, open days etc. – to maximise this added value on their behalf. Such programmes bring long-term benefits: they raise awareness of both cultural heritage and development projects, and they demonstrate clients' concern for the historic environment.
